ROM Progress - 02/22/2019

Yeah, it's been a while since an update. We have been working, rest assured.

Our kernel is pretty much done for the moment. Turns out most of what we needed was already in the kernel. In fact, it may even be very close to the stock kernel. So much has happened that I haven't taken the time to diff them.

Still. Use the custom kernel.

On the ROM front, everything is in place! Tonight was the last big change before the first ZIP build. I'm building a fresh kernel now, and then we'll see how well AROMA work on a 1.6 inch screen.

God help us.

From here on out, it should be relatively easy (and I know I'm going to regret saying that, but I'm hopeful). As of right now, there is no way to enable NFC. This will be fixed soon, either by an app (easier) or a settings change (harder, but obviously better). We've avoided signature verification disabling as much as we can, and we may have done so successfully.

That's not all! Once NFC is working, we have plans to make this ROM more than a straight NFC upgrade. We're still figuring out specifics, but we're talking launcher modifications and brand-new gestures, both harkening back to the good ol' days of Android Wear 1.0. If you know your stuff, you can take a guess at what we want to bring back!

Or, you could just... y'know. Join the Discord server and read exactly what we're planning. (check pins!)

We're getting close to then end. I hate setting ETAs... but I can't see this taking more than two weeks.

End Notes:

- WE HAVE A WEBSITE! davwheat has set up a pretty little thing, so big thanks to him! Go check it out at http://wear24rom.com. You can even read this blog there!

- Big thanks to our first donor, bensdeals! We know it isn't much, but we hope you've enjoyed your sparkly orange name at the top of our user list. If you want to donate, please check the FAQ section on our Discord server.

- Because of bensdeals, I went through with getting a SECOND Wear24! No more pinout board needed. I am still selling pinout cables for CA$5 each plus shipping (trends under $10). Contact me if interested!

    2. All that was needed was a cursory web search :') The XDA thread has been up since September, and dav and I have been working on it very actively since early February.
