ROM Progress - 02/22/2019

Yeah, it's been a while since an update. We have been working, rest assured. Our kernel is pretty much done for the moment. Turns out most of what we needed was already in the kernel. In fact, it may even be very close to the stock kernel. So much has happened that I haven't taken the time to diff them. Still. Use the custom kernel. On the ROM front, everything is in place! Tonight was the last big change before the first ZIP build. I'm building a fresh kernel now, and then we'll see how well AROMA work on a 1.6 inch screen. God help us. From here on out, it should be relatively easy (and I know I'm going to regret saying that, but I'm hopeful). As of right now, there is no way to enable NFC. This will be fixed soon, either by an app (easier) or a settings change (harder, but obviously better). ROM Progress - 3/05/2019 [Drowning in Shell Code]

Remember the last blog where I said I hate setting ETAs? There's a reason. ISSUE #1 -------------------------------------------------------- We tried AROMA and found that our touchscreen is incompatible. With no volume buttons, there's no way to use AROMA without rewriting many parts of it. We searched for another solution, and found it in shell code. Since then, we have tried multiple different methods of creating an installer. It's been a struggle, but we've got a hold on it somewhat. A big issue is that TWRP does not return syntax error code. Is there a way to find it? I dunno, but I'm not wasting the time trying to find it right this second. We've got a list of options that we can try, 1. New script that takes over update-binary could work, but needs fixing up to be more in line with proper shell syntax again (ShellCheck fucked some stuff) [currently on my local machine] 2. Kernel BOOTING from source, next steps... also, a request

Hello everyone! We've had builds from clean source working from a while now, but haven't been able to get them to boot. We narrowed the issue down to our boot image packing. Both mkbootimg and abootimg were causing panics. Now, that's changed. Thanks to janjan on XDA, our images are booting! We're still discussing as to how he packs them, but this is good news. Our next steps are to add the NFC components into /system and ensure NFC modules are working properly in the kernel. From what I understand, NFC isn't registered as a Java service on our current systems, so we're going to have to modify /system before the kernel. Wish us luck!
